Would you like to work with a passionate and committed technical journals editorial team? Would you like to contribute to publishing an ever-growing body of knowledge for civil engineers?

The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) is seeking an Assistant Managing Editor to serve as an integral part of the Journals team by assisting the Managing Editors and Journal Systems Administrator with the day-to-day operations of ASCE's 34 scholarly journals.

Responsibilities include:

  • Working with authors, reviewers, editors, and other publications staff with an overall focus on maintaining and improving journal turnaround times and high-quality peer review
  • Analyzing late paper reports and escalating issues with turnaround time when appropriate
  • Assisting authors with submission issues
  • Processing new and revised Discussions & Closures for an assigned set of journals
  • Monitoring and responding to email inquiries
  • Participating in editorial board meetings for individual titles
  • Assisting in the preparation and presentation of journal and editor statistics
  • Updating letter templates to authors, reviewers, and editors
  • Assisting with routine reports
  • Creating editor packets
  • Serving as the meeting organizer for virtual meetings and handling technical issues

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A 4-year college degree or equivalent broad knowledge in a specialized field.
  • A proven track record and 2 to 4 years of experience at increasing levels of responsibility
  • Experience with a professional association or society and interaction with editors is highly desirable
  • Intermediate competency with MS Office
  • Knowledge of digital graphics standards, LaTeX, Adobe Acrobat, and other file formats or software applicable to online manuscript submission and peer review is highly advantageous
